Diversity means different things to different people. What we believe it means, and what we hope to promote with this web site, is this: Diversity is a value that is shown in mutual respect and appreciation of the similarities and differences that make people unique. It's not just about culture, or religion, or age, or gender. The similarities and differences can be any of the thousands of things that make each person unique. What is ScrapbookingDiversity.com? Our plan for this web site is to make it into a portal of information and inspiration for every scrapbook enthusiast in the world - a place where everyone can feel acknowledged, validated, comfortable, and safe. We plan on promoting an interactive community of forums, galleries, articles, tips, and much more. Our passion is to promote scrapbooking to everyone - it truly is something that every single person across the world can enjoy. This can't be done until the industry as a whole decides to make it a priority - and hopefully this information and web site can serve as the catalyst. In addition, we want this web site to be the connection between the scrapbook industry and the many different types of scrapbook enthusiasts who exist. The industry needs to see you're here - that's the only way they will begin to grow and change and attempt to represent everyone, through acknowledgement, product selection, advertisements, and layout ideas. If you're a part of the scrapbook industry, this web site is for you. We're going to provide you not only with the connection to the vast number of scrapbook enthusiasts out there, but also the information you need to grow this part of your business and help advance the industry as a whole. An updated resources section will include news on all of the scrapbook companies and businesses who are moving forward and embracing the diversity of scrapbook enthusiasts. We've been heavily involved in the scrapbook industry since 1998, and we've witnessed its amazing growth firsthand. The one thing we noticed that was slower to catch on was the acknowledgement/awareness of scrapbook enthusiasts who didn't fit the traditional "demographic" - married Caucasian woman with children, usually of a Christian-based faith. Were there other types of scrapbook enthusiasts out there? And if not, why not? Scrapbooking is an activity that crosses all borders - everyone can enjoy it, no matter your gender, age, culture, etc. Why wasn't this being promoted to everyone? We began to research and discovered that there were many scrapbook enthusiasts out there who didn't fit the typical "demographic" - and were they happy that someone was finally acknowledging them! Over and over, we heard that they felt under-represented by the product selection, the magazine layouts, the advertisements, even by their own local stores. We heard stories of people who would drive miles out of their way to a store because they didn't feel comfortable or welcome at their closest store. That's when we decided to write Scrapbook U-Diversity: Redefining The Scrapbooking Industry, and we took the concept out on the road with seminars at national trade shows and consumer conventions. We knew that the scrapbook industry - the manufacturers, designers, retailers, magazine publishers - needed to be aware of the diversity of scrapbook enthusiasts so that they could begin to acknowledge them. Another goal of this web site is to provide a place where everyone feels welcome and safe. Believe me, we've been to hundreds of scrapbook message boards, and we know how mean some people can be. We want everyone to feel comfortable posting layouts and talking/connecting with others. What fun is scrapbooking if we can't share it?! To provide this environment, we are looking for moderators for our forums. Please click here for more information. Who is Behind ScrapbookingDiversity.com? ScrapbookingDiversity.com is the concept of Sue DiFranco, owner of Fun Facts Publishing, a company specializing in providing information and inspiration to the scrapbook industry. Does This Mean I'm Not Welcome Here if I Fit Into the "Typical" Demographic? Of course not! We want to emphasize again and again - this is a web site and community for everyone! Our goal is to make this all about inclusion - and not to exclude anyone at all. It is a place to acknowledge and celebrate every individual's similarities and differences. Why Should I Be Interested In This? Because it's a new community because it's a chance for your voice to be heard because it's a new concept that's growing quickly. If you're a member of the industry, you should certainly be interested, because this is where the industry is heading. Be one of the leaders. How can I be a part of this community? ScrapbookingDiversity.com is a work in progress and we have many ideas we want to implement soon. But we need your help! They say it takes a village to raise a child we think it also takes a village to raise awareness. We're asking for you to be a part of this village! This is what we are looking for: Moderators Although
we would like to believe differently, the concept of change and the
fear of the unknown causes some people to react negatively. We're looking
for volunteers to moderate our forums and make sure no one is posting
anything hateful or negative. Though we'll be popping in regularly,
it will be impossible for us to be there as much as we should. Please
email this information if you're interested: your name, how many hours
you can commit, and why this is something you'd like to do. help@scrapbookingdiversity.com Board
